John is a master bass player, but his insane skills never overshadow his ability to broadcast a raw and emotional message in his music. He never just shows off (even though he could), and there is always such intention and meaning in his songs. His music gives me a sense of purpose. This song specifically demonstrates how his technical abilities always lead him toward an emotional climax and never cloud the purpose of music with ego. I had one of my friends turn their nose up at this song at first, saying they're not into the finger-picking stuff, but then when they listened to the whole song they understood that all the quickness at the beginning accentuates the release of a slow and beautiful melodic reverie. This is as good as it gets musically for me.
